What Does the Logo Mean?

Blue Signature Ribbon: The Prechter family hopes to establish the blue ribbon as a national symbol of the fight against manic depression. The ribbon in the Prechter Fund logo resembles the letter "P," commemorating Heinz Prechter's signature and reinforcing the entire Prechter family's commitment to finding cures for manic depression.

Broken Circle: The blue ribbon is surrounded by a white circle. It represents the cycle of the illness. Always in search for balance and wellness in life, manic depressive patients alternate between the poles of "mania" and "depression." The blue ribbon breaking through the circle signifies the Fund's goal to advance breakthrough medical research to develop cures for manic depression.

Name: Wally Prechter established a foundation in memory of her late husband and called it "The Heinz C. Prechter Fund for Manic Depression." The initiative carries the name of the world-class leader who bridged the worlds of business, politics, and the community so that Heinz Prechter will always be remembered. The Prechter family also chose to face the stigma of mental illness and call the disease by its commonly understood name - manic depression - instead of the clinical term, "bipolar disorder." The name reflects the honesty, straightforwardness, and bold vision Heinz Prechter stood for throughout his life.

Tag Line: "Making a difference" was the motto Heinz Prechter lived by every day. The Fund intends to follow his shining example in making a difference in our quest as well. The Prechter family wants to be instrumental in developing cures for manic depression. It is a bold vision worthy of the man whose name the Fund carries.

Colors: The "blue" and "white" of the Prechter logo reflects the state colors of Heinz Prechter's native home region of Bavaria in southern Germany. He proudly called himself an "American by choice." However, he always cherished his German heritage. The colors pay homage to an American patriot who never forgot his humble beginnings in his homeland of Germany.
